Explore the Hidden Side of Wawel: New Underground Exhibition Now Open

A fascinating new experience has just launched at Wawel Royal Castle. The latest permanent exhibition, titled “Between the Walls. Wawel Underground”, invites visitors to step below the surface and discover an atmospheric route through the castle’s once-inaccessible fortifications.

This immersive walk along the western defensive walls reveals a lesser-known side of Wawel – blending reconstructed pathways, historic masonry, and storytelling enhanced by light and sound.

What Awaits Underground?

The route was carefully restored to highlight centuries of architectural layers beneath the royal hill. As you move through the underground space, you’ll gain insight into Wawel’s defensive history and the way Kraków’s most famous landmark evolved over time.

The visit is available only in small groups, and each visitor receives an audioguide, included in the ticket price.
