Festival 'Wawel at Dusk': A Musical Encounter in the Heart of Krakow
A Musical Journey through Wawel's History
The corners of the Royal Castle at Wawel will soon come alive with the sounds of classical, folk, and film music. From August 4 to 13, there will be six concerts as part of the festival. "Wawel at Dusk" is a summer event that harmoniously combines music with history. Concerts take place among the historical walls of the Jagiellonian residence - in the arcaded courtyard and Bathory's courtyard, known as the "heart" of Wawel.
Main Themes of this Year's Edition
Last year, the main motif of the festival was romanticism. This year, the organizers decided to focus on several key aspects: stylistic diversity of the music presented, the connection of culture with nature, and the work of artists born in 1933.
A Broad Range of Performers
In addition to the musical part of the festival, there will traditionally be a verbal part, prepared by Małgorzata Janicka–Słysz, the festival's artistic director. In the context of the Year of Nicolaus Copernicus and the 550th anniversary of his birth, the texts will include thoughts and quotes from the great astronomer.
Open-Air Concerts
The next day, Anna Boczar and Bartłomiej Kominek, also known as the Chopin Piano Duo, will present compositions by creators such as Bach, Grieg, Paderewski, and Camille Saint-Saëns. During the final concert (August 13), the audience will once again have the opportunity to hear the CORda Cracovia orchestra. This time, the conductor will be Yaroslav Shemet, and the artists will perform works by Grieg, Dvořák, and Chopin. More information
