"Image of the Golden Age" - Renaissance Meets Modernity
From the Renaissance to modern times, a unique sculpture has taken its place at the foot of Wawel.
Monumental Sculpture at Wawel
The monumental sculpture by Paweł Orłowski has found its home on Wawel Hill, marking the onset of the "Image of the Golden Age" exhibition, open to the public from September 15. Located on Kanoniczna Street, the sculpture titled "Woman in a Bonnet. Wawel Head" was crafted by Paweł Orłowski, a professor at the Fine Arts Academy in Krakow.
The inspiration for this contemporary piece comes directly from the Renaissance. Visitors to the exhibition have the opportunity to not only encounter Orłowski's monumental sculpture but also the original Renaissance Wawel heads meticulously sculpted by Sebastian Tauerbach. This sculpture forms a bridge between Wawel's heritage and modernity.
Richness of the "Image of the Golden Age"
"Image of the Golden Age" is an impressive exhibition, showcasing nearly 450 works from various parts of the world. The exhibition's aim is to depict the cultural and artistic heritage of the Polish-Lithuanian state during the reigns of Zygmunt I and Zygmunt August.
Not just paintings adorn the halls of Wawel Castle. Book miniatures, sculptures, goldsmithing, textiles, graphics, engravings, and printed works provide a comprehensive portrayal of this significant period in Polish history.
"Wawel is Yours" Festival
The exhibition's opening event will be accompanied by the "Wawel is Yours" festival, intending to revive the ambiance of the open court from the Jagiellonian times. During the festival, diverse attractions are planned, including a silent disco, climbing wall, planetarium, and many other surprises.
Blending Past with Present
Such a diverse and rich exhibition finds a perfect backdrop in the Renaissance Royal Castle at Wawel. Thanks to modern layout elements introduced by Adam Orlewicz, visitors can immerse themselves in the past, admiring both historical and contemporary works of art.
The diversified exhibits, thematic diversity, and modern approach to presenting history ensure that "Image of the Golden Age" offers a unique experience that combines past with present. Everyone curious about culture, history, and art should visit Wawel in the coming months.
