Wawel at Dusk 2026: One of Krakow's Most Atmospheric Summer Events Returns

Visitors planning a summer trip to Krakow will once again have the opportunity to experience one of the city's most unique cultural events. From 30 July to 9 August 2026, the historic courtyards of Wawel Castle will host the nineteenth edition of the Wawel at Dusk festival, combining classical music with the extraordinary setting of Poland's former royal residence.

The event has become a permanent part of Krakow's summer cultural calendar, attracting both residents and international travellers looking for memorable evening experiences beyond traditional sightseeing.

Classical Music in a Historic Setting

Unlike conventional concert venues, Wawel at Dusk takes place within the Renaissance courtyards of Wawel Castle. As daylight fades, illuminated arcades and historic architecture provide a spectacular backdrop for performances ranging from intimate chamber recitals to large-scale symphonic concerts.

The festival's unique concept allows visitors to experience one of Poland's most important landmarks from a completely different perspective, when the castle becomes a living cultural space after regular visiting hours.

Programme Highlights for 2026

This year's edition will present a diverse programme featuring solo performances, chamber ensembles and orchestral concerts. The repertoire will include works by some of the most celebrated composers in European music, including Fryderyk Chopin, Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Mieczysław Karłowicz.

The programme also places particular emphasis on Polish musicians and emerging talents, including young artists recognised in prestigious international competitions.

Among the highlights of this year's edition are:

  • opening chamber concerts at the end of July,
  • free daytime piano performances on 7 August,
  • an exceptional recital by renowned pianist Lidia Grychtołówna,
  • the festival finale featuring Zitong Wang, laureate of the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition.

Practical Information for Visitors

Concerts will take place on both the Batory Courtyard and the larger Arcaded Courtyard of Wawel Castle. Evening performances begin at 8:00 PM, while selected piano events are scheduled during the day. Tickets for paid concerts are available in regular and reduced-price categories.

Since performances are held outdoors, visitors are advised to prepare for changing weather conditions, especially during cooler summer evenings.

The full concert schedule, ticket details and organisational information are available on the official website of the festival organiser, the Royal Castle on Wawel.

For visitors looking for unusual things to do in Krakow in late July and early August, this festival remains one of the city's most memorable cultural experiences.
